King George Chase - Form Guide

Kauto Star The King George Chase Form Guide takes a look at some of the principles in the race and will be added to as and when the leading contenders from the King George Chase runners take to the track. We will be keeping a close eye on the main contenders if they have a run before Kempton and that includes the likes of Cue Card and Thistlecrack among others.

We are sure to see a number of the runners have a prep for the King George and we will be following each of them in the build to Kempton for one of the highlights of the jumps season. The Betfair Chase at Haydock is often a good trial for the King George and we will be running our beady eye over that one.

King George Contenders 2016

Cue Card

The defending champion disappointed slightly on debut this season in the Charlie Hall Chase but he bounced back in stunning style to win the Betfair Chase last time out. The Colin Tizzard trained 10YO slammed Coneygree at Haydock Park last month and it is hard to find holes in his form coming into Kempton.

Only two horses older than nine have won the King George since Desert Orchid in 1990 which is against Cue Card but his form over the last two years has been exceptional and he sets a very high standard.

Thistlecrack

A superb World Winner, Thistlecrack has won three novice chases this season in style it is hard to imagine how good this horse could be. He hasn't been off the bridle in the past 18 months and despite his novice status, connections are willing to throw the horse in to the deep end in open company on Boxing Day.

He made one or two jumping mistakes at Cheltenham last month which is a worry but his talent is without question and many believe this horse is something very special indeed.

His form over fences so far is nothing to write home about on the bare form and on that basis he has loads to find with Cue Card. His jumping will be tested like it hasn't been tested before but if he stands up to that, there is every chance Thistlecrack will become the first novice to win the King George.
